How to Become a Better Reader

Apparently ,there is high chance that you know how to read, but the question is, do you read well? The tips outlined below will help you in improving your reading skills, comprehension level and reading speed. It is said that reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Use these tips to become a better reader:



01. Take it Slow

Most people think that they read much slower compared to others. The truth is, the faster you read, the less likely you can comprehend the concept. Take it slow as you digest the ideas. You need to slow down when technical or unfamiliar words are grouped in a paragraph.Remember to have a dictionary and marker pen next to you.


Mark the words that you do not understand and check their meanings for you to fully understand what the whole concept in a paragraph. As you take it slowly, you will improve as time moves by and your reading speed will significantly improve. You first start by a slower pace and increase your rate continuously.


02. Write it Down

There is no power greater than the power of writing a concept on paper. You will remember it faster when you write it down. You want to understand the concept in the piece of work your reading. Just like this piece that you are now reading, you are digesting ideas which are very useful. Now, it is advisable to have a notebook next to you so that you take points as you proceed to the third tip. You can also practice by writing a paragraph daily to enhance your writing skills. After one month, you will realize that as you improve your writing skills, you also develop your reading skills.


3. Be suspicious. 

To be a better reader, you must develop a sense of suspicion. You must be eager to know what the author will say at the end of the piece you are reading. Suspicion develops motivation and motivation enhance your desire to read. 


04. Feel it. 

Yes, I will repeat that, feel it! As you read, you need to put yourself in the environment created by the author. Avoid any form of distractions and allow the concepts to simmer into your brain.Make sure you give pause to the commas and identify the gestures and dialogue. In no time, you will appreciate novels or any other book or post like a fine wine.
